A Standing Ovation For Keystone Oaks Band, Teachers
Hanlon and Bononi's final all-district band concert a rousing success.
This year's all-district band concert was bittersweet as Keystone Oaks students of all ages bade farewell to longtime music teachers Laura Hanlon and Dr. Robert Bononi. Both will retire this year. Bononi is a 31-year veteran of the Keystone Oaks district. Hanlon has been at the school for 10 years.
The two-night concert event opened Tuesday with Hanlon conducting the Keystone Oaks High School Symphonic band in an excellent rendition of M. Sweeney's "Where the Sun Breaks Through the Mist." The evening's performances concluded with Bononi leading the same group in the ever-popular Star Wars theme song.
Between the two sets, the Keystone Oaks High School Jazz Band wowed the crowd with pieces from Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington and even Prince.
