Dormont Mayor Receives Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence
Mayor Thomas Lloyd was recognized for his service to the borough.

Mayor Thomas Lloyd was among eight government officials given the Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence.
Lloyd, who has been involved in Dormont government for nearly 40 years, was recognized for his work on behalf of the borough.
“As a local government official, you hear firsthand the issues of your constituents and it is your responsibility to provide solutions that make your community a vibrant place to live, work and raise a family,” Lt. Gov. Jim Crawley said in a news release from Friday’s award ceremony in Harrisburg.

Lloyd was also recognized for his involvement with community organizations including the Dormont Athletic Boosters Association, the and Medical Rescue Team South Authority.
Lloyd, 78, is in his fifth term as mayor and also served on council for 18 years, including six as president.

“I like this place. I really do. Whatever I can offer, as long as I can offer it. And, obviously, people must have thought I offered something so they keep bringing me back,” he said Wednesday night at his office, when he holds constituent hours.
“I like this job and I like this town and I think it's quite an honor to be able to serve this community,” he said.
The Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs submitted Lloyd’s name for consideration for the award by the Governor's Center of Local Government Service.
Lloyd also represents Allegheny County on the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs’ board of directors, is a member of the Local Government Academy’s board of directors and is second-vice president of the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania. He’s also president of the Allegheny County Mayors Association.
