KO School Board Asks for Community Input in Superintendent Search

Acting Superintendent Kathy Foster discussed plans to hire a new superintendent, and plans include community participation.

The search for a new superintendent is going well, but to have a new person in the position as soon as possible, the hiring schedule is ambitious, acting Superintendent Kathy Foster said Thursday.

Foster said that Diane Kirk of the Tri-State School Study Council had met with focus groups in the district, and planned to meet with district administrators on Monday and with the professional staff after school on Tuesday for discussion.

The district will hold a meeting March 28, led by Kirk, to give parents and community members an opportunity to share input about the leadership qualities they want to see in a superintendent. The meeting will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the high school library. Written input can also be emailed to Kirk at DLK31@pitt.edu.

The school board would meet with Kirk the following day, Foster said. She said the board planned to start reviewing applications  in the beginning of April, and conduct a first round of interview in mid-April, followed by a second round of interviews in May.

The board plans to vote on a superintendent on May 24.

“We’re moving along well,” Foster said. “That’s the ambitious schedule for the next few months and weeks.”
