Scholarships Available for KO Students

Here are 13 college scholarships available to Keystone Oaks students.

It’s a new month, and there are plenty of new scholarships available for students —especially seniors—as they prepare for the future.

For more information on any of the below scholarships, students should contact the Keystone Oaks High School guidance office.

  • Central Scholarship and Loan Referral Service: This scholarship provides grants to Jewish students. Deadline: Feb. 7, 2012. Applications are at http://www.central scholarship.org
  • Buick Achievers Scholarship Program: This scholarship is for $25,000 or $2,000 awards. The student’s focus must be engineering, technology, design or business. See www.buickachievers.com. Deadline: Feb. 29, 2012.
  • Stream of Learning Scholarship from American Water for PA students: Ten $2,000 scholarships will be awarded. Students must have a 3.0 grade point average, plan to study environmental science, biology, chemistry or environmental engineering and write an essay.   • Rotary Club of Pittsburgh: Six $1,5000 scholarships will be awarded. Students must have a 3.2 grade point average and be a senior in Allegheny County. An essay is required. Deadline: March 16, 2012. Contact www.pittsburghrotary.org or call 412-471-6210.
  • Lola G. Duff and William H. Duff, II: Scholarships are merit or need-based. Must be protestant. Deadline: March 20, 2012. Contact sms.scholarshipamerica.org/Duff
  • Keystone Oaks Community Scholarship: Three $300 scholarships, one from each municipality, will be awarded. Students must have a 2.3 grade point average. An essay is required. Forms are available in the guidance office. See Mrs. Soberg. Deadline: March 30, 2012.
  • Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund: This is a $12,000 renewable scholarship. Student must be of Italian heritage, demonstrate excellent academic performance and financial need. Deadline: March 31, 2012. See Mrs. Soberg.
  • National Federation of the Blind: Scholarships for $3,000 to $12,000 will be awarded. Eligible students must be legally blind. Contact nfb.org/scholarships. Deadline: March 31, 2012.
  • Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation: A $1,000 tuition assistance is available. Students must have a 3.0 grade point average. Deadline April 20, 2012. Contact http://www.ustzuchi.org
  • Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Scholarship: A $1,000 renewable scholarship is available. The student must be a senior in Allegheny County, maintain a 3.25 grade point average and submit an essay. Deadline: April 27, 2012. Contact www.phlf.org.
  • 3R Scholarship Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundations for KO seniors: Students must have a 3.6 grade point average, demonstrate financial need, plan to attend a four-year college and write an essay. Deadline: April 30, 2012.  Forms are available in the guidance office. See Mrs. Soberg.
  • AES Engineers Scholarship: This is a $500.00 scholarship. The award is based on character and grade point average. Students must answer an essay question at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline: Oct. 5, 2012.
  • JR Holdcon Foundation: The foundation is offering 22 $1,000 scholarships. Contact www.bfspublishing.com.
