All of the dogs were suffering with sarcoptic mange (a highly contagious and uncomfortable disease), secondary skin infections and other health problems that were allegedly not under treatment by a veterinarian, according to information from the SPCA.

Along with the medical issues, the dogs and other animals were found to be living in filth, some without even a bowl of water, the SPCA said.

“The condition of the animals in this case is terrible," commented BCSPCA's Chief Humane officer Nikki Thompson. "From what we are able to determine, they have been suffering without proper veterinary treatment for months.”

The animals are under the examination of an SPCA veterinarian.

“Our first goal is to reduce their suffering and get them back on the long road to health," said Executive Director Linda Reider. "These gentle animals will receive the utmost care and attention from our expert staff members while the legal process unfolds."
