The annual event, sponsored by Smithsonian magazine, provides free admission this Saturday, Sept. 24, to participating museums across the country, including three local ones.

Here's how organizers describe the day:
"Smithsonian Museum Day Live! is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket."
