5 Super Athletes With Ties To Doylestown

Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Doylestown area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.

Patch is celebrating five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. This list is just a snapshot, with countless other athletes helping shape the rich sports culture in our area.

1. Lauren Crandall (Field Hockey)

A Central Bucks East graduate, Lauren Crandall grew up in Doylestown and went on to become a three-time Olympian, competing for the U.S. women's field hockey team in 2008, 2012 and 2016 and serving as team captain for the final two Games. Before that, she played at Wake Forest, where she helped the Demon Deacons win back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2003 and 2004.

2. Chloe Timberg (Track & Field)

A Central Bucks West grad, Chloe Timberg set the Pennsylvania high school pole vault record as a senior in 2021, clearing 14 feet, 2.25 inches, at the time the highest mark ever recorded on the East Coast. She went on to Rutgers, where she became the first woman in program history to win an NCAA track and field championship, taking the 2024 NCAA outdoor title. Timberg has continued to climb since turning pro, winning the 2026 USA Indoor Championship in the pole vault.

3. Jim Jensen (Football)

Nicknamed "Crash," Jim Jensen starred at Central Bucks West before a 12-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, where he became one of the league's most versatile players, contributing at receiver, running back, tight end and quarterback. He was named the NFL's Special Teams Player of the Year in 1988 and caught Dan Marino's 200th career touchdown pass in 1989. Jensen was later inducted into the Boston University Athletics Hall of Fame and named to the Dolphins' 50th Season All-Time Team.

4. Bryan Scott (Football)

A three-sport standout at Central Bucks East, Bryan Scott was a second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2003 and went on to a 10-year NFL career, most of it spent with the Buffalo Bills. He finished his career with 591 tackles, 11 interceptions and 10.5 sacks across stops in Atlanta, New Orleans, Tennessee and Buffalo. Scott was honored with the Bills' Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2012 for his community work off the field.

5. Randy Cuthbert (Football)

A Central Bucks West standout under legendary coach Mike Pettine Sr., Randy Cuthbert went on to star at Duke, where he earned First-team All-ACC honors in 1989 and the ACC's Brian Piccolo Award in 1992, given annually to a player who overcomes great personal or academic odds. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 1993 and also spent time with the Carolina Panthers. Cuthbert later returned home to coach football at his alma mater from 2001 to 2004.
