DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Doylestown Branch of the Bucks County Free Library has been awarded $539,660 from the state’s Keystone Grants for Public Library Facilities program.
The state Department of Education issues grants for the construction and rehabilitation of public library facilities across the commonwealth. The Keystone grants help them improve their operations, install equipment, and upgrade security systems.

“I am proud of the librarians and county staff whose hard work earned this competitive funding,” said State Rep. Tim Brennan (D-29). “This substantial grant will help the library to better serve the community without requiring additional local tax revenue.”
The Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund was established by the General Assembly in 1993. The Department of Education, through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, Bureau of Library Development, administers the public library portion of this program, which is funded from a portion of the state’s realty transfer tax.

“Libraries are one of the cornerstones of our democracy,” Brennan continued. “With school libraries under censorship pressure in the region, our local libraries take on even greater importance as resources for historical knowledge and accurate information.”
