BUCKS COUNTY, PA — This weekend is again bustling with some awesome things to do around Bucks County.
In addition to celebrating Juneteenth on Friday, the weekend ushers in - officially - the beginning of summer with the solstice and the longest day of the year in terms of daylight. There will be about 14 hours worth, plenty of time to get out and enjoy a Bucks County weekend.
Among the things to do this weekend is the statewide Pennsylvania Garden Party, which is opening more than 90 gardens from across the state for public tours, including eight right here in Bucks County.
This weekend also marks the return of "South Pacific" to the stage at the Bucks County Playhouse. It's a big homecoming for the musical, which was created right here in Bucks County by Oscar Hammerstein II at his farm in Doylestown.

Over the next two weekends, more than 90 gardens spanning 12 counties across Pennsylvania will open their dirt and grass covered pathways for Pennsylvania’s first ever Garden Party. From Pittsburgh to Bucks County, garden clubs are teaming up with the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania to showcase their local backyard gardens and public landscapes over the next two Saturdays during an unprecedented peek at Pennsylvania’s hidden, flowering gems.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ground-breaking musical, “South Pacific,” has come home. The landmark American musical is opens this week at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope where it will continue on stage through July 26. The official opening night is Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. The musical has deep roots in Bucks County. Oscar Hammerstein II wrote “South Pacific” while living at Highland Farm in nearby Doylestown, where he spent many of his later years. The musical is based on “Tales of the South Pacific” by Pulitzer Prize-winning author James A. Michener, who was born in Doylestown, graduated from the former Doylestown High School, and maintained lifelong ties to Bucks County.

"The Rooftop," Doylestown's first ever rooftop bar, will celebrate its grand opening with an extended weekend celebration beginning on Friday at the Main Street Marketplace. The new space is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, with seating available on a first come, first serve basis. The opening will kick off an extended weekend celebration with drink specials, giveaways and live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Doylestown will be showing its pride on Saturday, June 20 during a Pride Festival Block Party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on East State Street between Pine and Main streets. The free event is part of Doylestown's Pride Festival, which continues through the end of the month. The day will feature live music, food, and lots of rainbows and unicorns.

The area's newest yoga studio will celebrate the Summer Solstice, Father's Day and International Yoga Day with a pop up yoga event on Sunday, June 21, at 591 Durham Road (across from the Marrazzo's Garden Center in Wrightstown. Several local businesses will be joining the event, including Herbal Healers, which will be on site offering information about their natural products, and Newtown Hardware House, which will be providing samples of its world-famous chocolate chip cookies. There will also be complimentary refreshments.
