Summer Solstice Yoga Event To Benefit Newtown's A Love For Life
An afternoon yoga fundraiser will be held on Sunday at the new home of TrueYoga in Wrightstown Township.

WRIGHTSTOWN, PA — The area's newest yoga studio will celebrate the Summer Solstice, Father's Day and International Yoga Day with a pop up yoga event on Sunday, June 21, at 591 Durham Road (across from the Marrazzo's Garden Center
Several local businesses will be joining the event, including Herbal Healers, which will be on site offering information about their natural products, and Newtown Hardware House, which will be providing samples of its world-famous chocolate chip cookies. There will also be complimentary refreshments.
Beginning at 2 p.m., yoga instructor Elle Kaplan will be leading a yoga class for all ages and all levels. The cost is $20, with proceeds benefiting A Love For Life, a Newtown-based nonprofit that raises funds for pancreatic cancer research at the Abramson Cancer Center.

“We are excited to introduce our TrueYoga studio - a place to call home that is based on community and authenticity and tradition,” said Kaplan, “and we are always so happy to partner with A Love for Life, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research. Together we hope to make a difference one breath at a time “
In 2012, Kaplan first partnered with her friend Christine Edmonds, president of A Love for Life, to offer donation-based yoga classes with all proceeds benefiting pancreatic cancer research at Penn. Since then, ther have been almost 100 classes and all cash donations have been matched 100 percent.

“Elle has been such an important part of our nonprofit activities over the last 10 years” said Edmonds. “She was a great friend to my husband, especially in his last months and offered him gentle yoga sessions and such a positive and supportive environment. Although we lost Kevin to pancreatic cancer, we have both continued to work to fund research in his honor. There have finally been some very promising breakthroughs, and we hope to continue funding our Penn research team and continue working to bring more hope to patients who face this challenging diagnosis.”
Edmonds added, “The Sunday afternoon Summer Solstice Celebration also coincides with Father’s Day. It’s a perfect opportunity to introduce Dads to this centuries-old practice, geared towards all levels (even for those who have never tried yoga before). The celebration also fits in well with the idea of ‘More Fun /Less Stuff’ that we all strive for.”
