DOYLESTOWN, PA — The annual Bucks County Cranksgiving bicycle ride is gearing up for its annual fall ride through Doylestown on Sunday, Nov. 8.
The ride is scheduled to depart from Broad Commons Park (10 Doyle Street) at 9 a.m. Online registration is free, and event-day registration begins at 8:45 a.m. E-bikes are welcome.
The 9-mile ride will take cyclists to Doylestown's Simply Fresh McCaffrey's Market and then to the Doylestown Acme, where participants will purchase non-perishable grocery items for donation to the food pantries operated by the Bucks County Housing Group.
Fred Beans Auto Group will be providing a box truck, which will collect donations along the way and then transport the items to the pantries.
Since 2012, the cycling community here has donated more than 119,000 pounds of non-perishable grocery items to support the community.
"We're grateful to Bike Works for the Cranksgiving tradition and bringing community together in a meaningful way," said Erik Clare, executive director of the Bucks County Housing Group. "It's a great example of how a fun event can have a real impact. Every rider, donation, and bag of food helps us make sure our neighbors have food on their tables during the holiday season. We're proud to be part of it and encourage everyone to come out and support our community."
According to the housing group, nine percent of Bucks County residents and 16 percent of Bucks County children face daily food insecurity.
Donations will also be accepted at Bike Works Doylestown (139 S. Main St., Doylestown 18901) leading up to the ride.
On race day, Vernafern/Hopscotch restaurant will be providing prizes for "Biggest Donor" and "Best Costume."
Backyard Beans Coffee Company (Lansdale and Ambler) will provide pre-ride coffee, and Jersey Mike's (Doylestown) will provide a post-ride lunch for participants.
