DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Central Bucks School Board on Tuesday appointed a Doylestown architect to an opening on the school board.

Daniel Kimicata replaces Miriam Mahmud who resigned her region five seat in August. He was sworn in by Bucks County Judge Stephen Corr who administered the oath of office.

Region 5 includes Chalfont Borough and New Britain Township South 1 and 2 and West 1 and 2.

Kimicata graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University and earned his Masters degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University.

“I believe my training and expertise as an architect are unique and would make me the best candidate,” he said. “As the school district is responsible for the curriculum, it’s also responsible for the physical buildings where our students learn, compete and perform. To provide the highest levels of education, we need to provide the best facilities to our students and teachers. For me the pedagogy and the built environment are equally important.

Daniel Kimicata is sworn in by Bucks County Judge Stephen A. Corr.

“As an architect, I have extensive experience with design, construction, project management, budget negotiations, and value engineering,” he continued. “With renovations, I have experience evaluating existing buildings for deficiencies to find opportunities for targeted and impactful investments. I would bring these unique qualifications and expertise to the school board.”

In addition to being an architect, Kimicata said being a parent with children in the district is a valuable point of view to have on the board, he said.

Mahmud resigned her seat and the vice presidency of the board in August due to a move out of the region.

A New Vice President

In a 6 to 1 vote, the board voted to appoint Heather Reynolds as the board’s new vice president. Board member Jim Pepper voted against the appointment saying he would only vote for Reynolds for president.

Since joining the board in November, board member Dana Foley said Reynolds has demonstrated tremendous, enthusiasm, energy and commitment to her role and serving on behalf of students, teachers, support staff, and bus drivers. She has worked collaboratively with the cabinet, with the superintendent and we are lucky to have her in this position.”

Board member Heather Reynolds was appointed as the board's new vice president.

Reynolds said she’s “honored” to step into the role of vice president. “This role carries significant responsibilities and I don’t take that lightly. I’m deeply grateful for the trust and confidence my fellow board members have instilled in me and that our community has placed in me.

“I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside such dedicated individuals and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues and the administration to ensure that every decision we make supports the success and the well-being of our students," she continued. "I am committed to serving our entire community with integrity and transparency … Let’s continue creating a future that our district can be proud of.”
