Bedminster Police Chief Retires After 26 Years In Law Enforcement

BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, PA — Another Central Bucks County police chief is retiring.

On Tuesday, July 30, Chief Matthew Phelan officially retired from the Bedminster Township Police Department where he has worked as chief since 2020.

This past year has seen the retirements of New Hope Borough Police Chief Michael Cummings, Solebury Township Police Chief Dominick Bellizzie, and Doylestown Township Police Chief Dean Logan.

Chief Phelan began his career serving with the Tinicum Township Police Department from 1998 to 2007 and again from 2009 to 2020 as a patrolman, corporal, sergeant and then as chief of police. For two years, from 2007 to 2009, the chief worked as assistant director of safety and police at Bloomsburg University.

In retirement, Chief Phelan plans to pursue a career opportunity at the Upper Bucks County
Technical School where he will educate the next generation of local law enforcement officers.

Bedminster Police along with neighboring police departments, Dublin Volunteer Fire Company, and Point Pleasant-Plumsteadville EMS, participated in a ceremonial “last ride” for Chief Phelan.

"We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Chief Phelan for 26 years of dedicated service to the communities he served. We wish him much success and happiness in the next chapter of his career," Bedminster officials said.
