Best Chicken Salad in Central Bucks County?

We're in search of the best chicken salad in and around Doylestown! Tell us your faves!

Writer's note: This story has been edited to remove reference to Gross' Gourmet's move to South Doylestown. We did not mean to connect their move to the reason they closed.

It's mainly chicken and mayonnaise...yet there so many differences across Central Bucks County!

Chicken salad is the perfect summer meal: it's light, tasty, and easy to make. Plus it's low-carb and high-protein (if you're into that keto thing!)

Whether you're heading out to Doylestown for a quick lunch, or looking for the perfect take-home dinner, many area residents are eating chicken salad in great proportions.

How much can you eat? Respondents on Chowhound.com say an good serving size is 1/3-pound per person--but that's based on having additional foods. At the Giant store in the Cross Keys Shopping Center, containers of up to 2-pounds are displayed in their pickup case, leading some to believe the average serving size could be closer to 1/2-pound.

But where is the best chicken salad in and around Doylestown?

A few years ago, this search would have started and stopped at Gross' Gourmet Foods, where their chicken salad was offered up plain or on wraps or sandwiches. However, the business closed in 2015.

So where can you get some high-quality chicken salad around Doylestown? Here are some local entries:

  • Weis Markets (Mercer Square, 73 Old Dublin Pike): Weis' store-made offering appears to have the highest-ranked chicken salad, due to the larger chicken pieces and savory mayonnaise.
  • GIANT Food Stores (Cross Keys Place, 4357 Swamp Rd, and Doylestown Pointe Plaza, 2395 York Rd): GIANT has a fine store-made entry into the chicken salad genre, and is aided by a buffalo chicken version sometimes available. They also often have pre-filled packages available for fast pickup.
  • Simply Fresh by McCaffrey's (200 W. State St.): McCaffrey's also has a fine chicken salad offering, consistent with their freshness promise across their entire chain.
  • ACME Markets (Doylestown Shopping Center, 480 N. Main St.). ACME's chicken salad appears to be shipped in from an outside manufacturer. "Not an option" according to some.

The entries from individual restaurants are too numerous to mention. But we'd love to hear your faves on our Facebook or Twitter accounts!

(By the way, opinions vary by taste and experience...so don't take our word or opinions for it...go try them all and let us know your faves!)
