Black Bear Spotted In Doylestown Township: Police

Police said the Pennsylvania Game Commission has been notified and is formulating a game plan.

DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A black bear has been spotted in the backyard of a residence near Ferry Road and Iron Hill Road, the Doylestown Township Police Department reported Thursday morning.

"The Pennsylvania Game Commission has been notified and formulating a game plan," police reported.

This is the third black bear sighting reported by police in Bucks County this spring. Bear sightings have also been reported in Upper Makefield and in Solebury Township.

Social media posts also indicate a black bear was spotted in New Britain.

On Monday, police in Solebury Township reported a bear roaming the area of Aquetong, Upper Mountain and Upper York roads.

"We warn residents to maintain a safe distance from the bear, not to approach the bear and to secure their garbage, bird feeders and other food that may attract the bear," Solebury police said in an alert to residents. "Make no attempts to feed the bear.

"Anyone who happens to come in contact with a bear should remain calm, make noise and slowly back away," police said.

In late April, Upper Makefield Police spotted a bear roaming through the township’s bucolic landscape. Police said an Upper Makefield officer observed the bear in the area of Street Road between Lurgan Road and Windy Hollow Road.

“This isn’t the first time one has been seen in our area and it definitely will not be the last,” police said in a Facebook posting.
