Bucks County Collecting Unused, Outdated Prescription Drugs
Residents can drop off their unused and outdated prescription drugs at 47 different sites throughout Bucks County.
BUCKS COUNTY, PA — National Prescription Drug Take Back Day takes place on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s Take Back event will feature 47 public collection sites located throughout the county. Simply drive up – or walk in – and drop off any unused, unneeded or expired medications for safe disposal.
In addition to prescription medications, the collection will be accepting over-the-counter and pet medications, vitamins, vaping products and more. Plus, select sites throughout the county will be collecting sharps and distributing Narcan. Visit https://tinyurl.com/takebackoctober2022 for site locations and what’s accepted.
Can't make it to Take Back Day? You can still safely dispose of your medications at one of the permanent collection boxes located at Bucks County police departments. Find a box near you: https://tinyurl.com/v3ece48u.

The following products may be dropped off during Take Back Day: Prescription and over-the-counter solid medications, i.e. tablets and capsules; liquid medications, inhalers, creams, ointments and nasal sprays; pet medications; and vaping devices, cartridges, pods and e-liquids (please remove batteries). Do not bring injectables, needles or illicit substances.
Why is Take Back Day important?
- When Pennsylvania youth were asked in a 2019 survey how they obtained prescription drugs they used without a doctor’s prescription, 42.9 percent said they “took them from a family member living in my home.”
- More than 50 percent of people who abuse prescription pain relievers get them from friends or relatives.
- Prescription and over-the-counter drugs are the most commonly misused substances by Americans 14 and older, after marijuana and alcohol.
- When drugs are flushed down the toilet, filters may not remove all of the chemicals.
Some of the items commonly accepted at permanent medication collection boxes include: prescription and over-the-counter medications, tablets, capsules, patches, creams, vitamins, pet medications, ointments and inhalers.
