Bucks County Man Arrested In Assault On Police Officer In Hilltown

After being placed under arrest, police said the man spit on an officer, attempted to damage a police vehicle and made threats.

HILLTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A man was arrested for assaulting a police officer and brandishing a gun at another person during an incident in the parking lot of a Bethlehem Pike convenience store.

Hilltown Police have charged Joseph William Dougherty with assault of a law enforcement officer, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, possession of a weapon and general impairment (DUI).

According to police, Dougherty brandished a handgun at a citizen in the parking lot of the business. Montgomery Township Police assisted by performing a traffic stop on the vehicle Dougherty was operating.

After being placed under arrest, police said Dougherty spit on a Montgomery Township Police Officer, attempted to damage a police vehicle, and made terroristic threats to do harm to
police officer's families. Two firearms were recovered at the scene.

Dougherty was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Lisa J. Gaier of Quakertown and remanded to the Bucks County Community Correctional Facility in lieu of posting 10 percent of $250,000 bail.
