Experience Pearl S. Buck International's New Exhibit Building on the Dream: Form Africa to Bucks County

The Building On the Dream: From Africa to Bucks County exhibit will run from February-December 2019 at the Pearl S. Buck International Exhibit Gallery located at 520 Dublin Road, Hilltown, PA. Building on the Dream: From Africa to Bucks County pays tribute to the lives, culture, accomplishments and contributions of African Americans in Bucks County from their origins in Africa through the 21st century.
Highlights of the exhibit include:
- A timeline of events in African American history in Pennsylvania, including a memorial list of African Americans who were registered as slaves in Bucks County in the 18th and 19th centuries;
- The history of the Underground Railroad in Bucks County and the role of Bucks County AME churches in helping African Americans transition from slavery to freedom;
- Display of African artifacts and African American quilts;
- Information on notable 20th-century African Americans of Bucks County, and more.
Pearl S. Buck International’s vital work in intercultural education includes exhibits that educate the public about the diverse cultures that make up the country and world in which we live. Past exhibits have highlighted the plight of Amerasians in the Philippines and shared the story of Jewish migration into China. Other intercultural education programs from Pearl S. Buck International include Welcome Workplace for schools and organizations, the Global Leadership Program for high school students, international culture tours, and international student exchanges.
