Mysterious Overnight Explosions Baffling People In Bucks Co.

For weeks, residents in Bucks County have been reporting mysterious explosions overnight. But nobody — not even police — knows why.

What is causing nighttime explosions in parts of Upper Bucks County?

The question remains unanswered, and has baffled both local residents and area police departments.

The most recent explosion was reported early Sunday morning in Nockamixon Township.

Resident Nick Zangli told the Bucks County Herald “it was one hell of an explosion.” He said it left a four-foot wide cavity in the ground. Residents reported that their homes were shaken in the blast, which was felt as far south as Point Pleasant along the Delaware River, the Herald reported.

More perplexing, though, is that this weekend's mysterious blast is not the first of its kind in recent days.

In late April, a series of explosion-like noises were reported around the Quakertown area.

Resident Donna Weaver told FOX29 it sounds "just like a boom." She told the network she heard it "several" times in April. In fact, the "wall-shaking" explosions, typically heard between 2 and 6 a.m., have become the talk of the neighborhood, FOX29 reported.

Residents interviewed by WFMZ say the booms sound off around 2 a.m. and typically include two rounds that are about five minutes apart.

Police are mystified, and are asking residents to report suspicious activity. Anyone who hears an explosion should notify police, and try to pinpoint the direction it is coming from, according to Richland Township Police.

The Richland Township Police Department in mid-April confirmed it has received inquiries about loud explosions heard in the northern part of the township along the border of Richland and Milford townships.

However, they do not know what is causing the disruptive noises.

"Milford Township is aware and has been researching," that police department said in a Facebook post. "Rest assured, we are not aware of anyone having permission to blast, and hope to help in locating the source of these explosions. If anyone sees anything suspicious in that area, please reach out to police or the township. If you are close, try to pinpoint the direction it is coming from."
