Students at Central Bucks' Simon Butler Elementary School will be offered counseling following the sudden passing of a fellow student.

First grader Brandon Luk passed away Sunday.

"While I have spoken with the family, I do not have any additional information to share at this time other than it was a result of an infection," Principal Joe Brereton said in a Monday letter to parents.

"Everyone in the Butler community will always remember Brandon as a class leader, and a very warm and caring young boy," Brereton said in the letter.

Class meetings were planned with students Tuesday to tell them the sad news. "Butler counselors, as well as other elementary school counselors from the school district, will be available tomorrow to meet with students who might want to talk to someone during the school day. Students in grades 3-6 will not be tested on the PSSA Math tomorrow. We will inform you of the revised schedule," Brereton said.

Brandon's older sibling also attends the school.

Brereton also offered the following resources to help parents talk to their children about their peer's sudden passing.

"Butler is an incredibly supportive community and in the coming days and weeks, we will begin to discuss ways that we might support the Luk family and honor Brandon's memory. In the meantime, please join me in sending our deepest sympathy to the Luks, their families, and their friends. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone during this difficult time," the principal said.
