A Celebration of Mike Pettine will be held Saturday, April 1 at Central Bucks West High School, according to his obituary.

The event honoring the legendary Central Bucks West football coach will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Pettine, who died suddenly on Feb. 24 at the age of 76, was a coach at Central Bucks West for more than three decades. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Pettine suffered a fatal heart attack while golfing with friends near his winter home in Florida.

His obituary, posted by the Bucks County Courier Times, said Pettine "placed a high value on the hard work and teamwork skills necessary for students and players to succeed, both in the classroom as well as on the football field."

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, his three children and seven grandchildren.

"Despite his well-documented accomplishments on the field, his proudest moments came when witnessing over 90 former players earn football scholarships and countless others go on to play and coach at varying levels of high school and college football, as well as the National Football League. He was also honored to witness the establishment of a Mike Pettine Scholarship Fund to assist future Central Bucks West athletes in furthering their college educations," his obituary said.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mike Pettine Memorial Football Scholarship, c/o Central Bucks West High School, Guidance Office Awards Committee, 375 W. Court St., Doylestown, PA 18901.
