BUCKINGHAM, PA — Central Bucks High School East has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for excellence in academics by the U.S. Department of Education. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

"We are incredibly proud to share that our own CB East was among this select list recognized by Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona as a multiple National Blue Ribbon Awardee, first in 2002 and now again in 2023," announced Central Bucks Superintendent Dr. Abram Lucabaugh in a district-wide communication.

East is one of 353 schools from across the nation selected for the honor, which recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education,” said Cardona. “The leaders, educators, and staff at our National Blue Ribbon Schools continually inspire me with their dedication to fostering academic excellence and building positive school cultures that support students of all backgrounds to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective and innovative school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.”

Every year the U.S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve high levels.

“I’m so proud of the hardworking students, educators, and staff members at CB East for earning this prestigious distinction,” said Bucks County Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick. “CB East has a long tradition of academic excellence, and this award is a direct result of all of their hard work. Congratulations to CB East!”

According to Cardona, the coveted National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

"Please join me in congratulating the staff, students, and administration at CB East for this tremendous distinction," said Dr. Lucabaugh. "Our district’s collective focus on teaching and learning continues to provide our students with access to a first-class education and the many
opportunities it affords, and we are proud to have our district recognized in this manner. We look forward to additional celebrations in the weeks to come."
