Disturbance At Perkins; Grandparents Scam: Plumstead Police Report

Business owner reports fraudulent activity; tobacco sold to underage girl; traffic stops result in DUI charges.

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Plumstead Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests betweem Jan. 3 and 8:

January 3

  • At 4:20 p.m., a man came into the station to report fraudulent activity on his business account that is in the area of Point Pleasant Pike. He told police that in three different transactions a total of $6840 was withdrawn from his account. He noticed this when he was closing his books for the year. The complainant was given a victim’s right packet. No further action is being taken.

  • At 10:41 a.m., officers responded to the Dollar General on Easton Road for the sale of tobacco products to an underage person. The complainant stated that a clerk sold a pack of cigarettes to an individual knowing that she was underage. The clerk was advised of the situation and was told that the store would be cited.

January 6

  • At 11:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Perkins Restaurant on Swamp Road for an unwanted person. By the time officers arrived the suspect had already left. Officers were met by the complainant who said the individual came into the restaurant and was loud, making inappropriate comments and was disturbing other customers. The manager escorted the individual out and requested the officers to reach out and inform him that he is no longer welcomed back.
  • At 12:10 p.m., officers investigated a victim of the so called Grandparents scam. A man told police that he had received a call that his grandson was in jail and needed to pay $5000 to bail him out. The complainant, who believed the scammer, went to a bitcoin location and paid the money. The complainant was provided with a victim’s right package and the officer is investigating.
  • At 9:45 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area Easton Road on the operator of a white Hyundai Sonata. Upon speaking with the operator, the officers detected a strong odor of alcohol. The 22 year old from Doylestown was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

  • At 7:41 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area Old Easton Road on the operator of a Black Dodge Ram pickup. Upon speaking with the operator, the officers detected a strong odor of alcohol. The 32 year old from Perkasie was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
