Doylestown Borough Announces Gift In Support Of Children's Play Area
The proposed 8,500 square foot play area at Broad Commons Park will feature a uniquely Doylestown design.
DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Borough of Doylestown has announced the receipt of a
major gift of $50,000 from Christopher B. and and Whitney Chandor for the development of a children's play area at Broad Commons Park.
“The Chandors were instrumental in bringing together the Borough and the Heritage Conservancy in order to make the park even possible, and now have cemented their legacy as one of its most generous beneficiaries,” announced a posting on the borough’s Facebook page.
The proposed 8,500 square foot signature play area will feature a uniquely Doylestown design
resembling Fonthill Castle and its surrounding woods. Some of the project features include a storytelling area, a We-Go-Round, a bridge, a nature play area and a Fonthill Castle climbing feature.

The playground is designed to serve a broad age group and all abilities ages 5-12, including custom and inclusive play structures. It will also include required safety surfacing, fencing, ADA access and landscaping.
While the donation from the Chandor's is a great start, there is more to be done to reach the borough’s funding goal.

In September the borough received a $250,000 toward the project from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The grant will pay half of the cost of the $500,000 project with the borough picking up the match.
