Doylestown Announces Free Summer Concert, Movie Series Lineup

There are lots of free concerts and movies planned this summer in Doylestown.

The entertainment series, formerly known as the "Sounds as Summer" series, is now called the Thompson Performing Arts Series. It is organized by the Doylestown Township Parks and Recreation.

All performances will be held at the Covenant Bank Amphitheater in Central Park.

Here is the schedule:

May 27: Kickin off Summer with CB Cares-Y2C (7 p.m.)

• A talent showcase of CBSD students in the Y2C program featuring sounds from a cappella to popular cover tunes

May 30: Covenant Bank Jazz Fest (5 p.m.)

• Featured performers include Cherry Lane featuring Christa Tinari, Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble and Eric Mintel Quartet.

June 10: CB Cares-Y2C Rocks (7 p.m.)

• Don't miss up and coming CB West student John Leahy as he and his band The Rescue take Doylestown by storm.

June 22: River of Dreams Band (7 p.m.)

• Billy Joel Tribute. Remember when you couldn’t turn on a radio without hearing those words...spend an evening with the memories and the magic.

June 29: British Invasion Tribute (7 p.m.)

• More than just The Beatles, the British Invasion Tribute features classic songs by iconic British groups such as The Zombies, The Moody Blues, Dave Clark Five and Herman’s Hermits, etc.

July 6: Movie: "Good Boy" (8:30 p.m.)

• This fido flick is sponsored by Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic. Bring the whole family and four-legged best friend for some "dog"gone fun. Rating: PG. Rescheduled in the event of rain.

July 10

The Philly Party Band & Fireworks (7:30 p.m.)

• Featuring the "Ultimate Party Band" who will entertain you with everything from big band to disco to current top 40 hits followed by fireworks. $5 per car. Rain date 7/17

July 13

The Fabulous Greaseband (7 p.m.)

• Oldies but goodies featuring the best of the 50s, 60s, 70s 80s and 90s. Dance the night away with this highly entertaining and energetic performance.

July 20

Real Diamond (7 p.m.)

• The premier Neil Diamond Tribute band dedicated to the faithful re-creation of the live Neil Diamond experience. If you like Neal Diamond, you will love this band.

July 27

Quakertown Band (7 p.m.)

• As Bucks County's oldest community band, The Quakertown Band is known across the region for its performances of both historic and contemporary music.

July 29

Doylestown Heat (7 p.m.)

• Jazz, swing, ragtime, funk, rock! An energetic mix of music that everyone can enjoy. You wont be able to keep your feet still. Doylestown Heat is the ambassador band of the Doylestown Lions Club.

Aug. 3

Jimmy and the Parrots (7 p.m.)

• Grab your beach chair, your suntan oil, and your favorite drink, and get ready for a trip to the islands with the ultimate tribute to Jimmy Buffett.

Aug. 10

The Boy Band Project (7 p.m.)

• Back by popular demand, this group specializes in the sounds, movement, and energy that is the "boy band" including Backstreet Boys, Hanson, O-town, One Direction, Boyz II Men, etc.

Aug. 19

Back to School DJ Dance Party (6:30-9:30 p.m.)

• It's that time of year again. Get together for that last summer blowout in the park and on the dance floor with DJ Dave Boice! Rain date -8/26.

Aug. 24

Movie: Disney's "Zootopia" (8:30 p.m.)

• A comedy-adventure set in the modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia. It’s big fun for all shapes and species! Rating: PG Rescheduled in the event of rain.
