Doylestown Baseball Crowned 2017 Bux-Mont Connie Mack A Champions

DAA Baseball beats defending champion Warrington Baseball to win the Bux-Mont Connie Mack A Division; will take #1 seed into state tourney

Doylestown Baseball was crowned Champions of the 2017 Bux-Mont Connie Mack A Division Monday night after beating defending 2016 champions Warrington Baseball at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pa.

Monday's Game 3 win was a decisive 7-1 conclusion to the 3-game series.

Doylestown enjoyed a high-scoring 13-3 win Game 1 Saturday, but then suffered a tough 4-3 loss in Sunday's Game 2.

The 3-game series was much like the teams' rivalry all season-long. Doylestown (18-2 regular season) and Warrington (16-4) traded first place in the standings back and forth all season long. Each team had a win and a loss against the other in the regular season.

Head coach Ray Rudek coached the team to a very successful regular season, with 9 of their 18 wins decided by the 10-run rule.

Rudek was assisted by Jim Webb, Tom Woolum, Brian Loving, and Chris Gatto.

Most of these Doylestown players have played together since their tee-ball days 10-12 years ago. The championship is especially sweet for several older players, for whom this is their final year of Connie Mack eligibility, and a fitting conclusion to their Connie Mack careers.

With this championship, Doylestown will be the #1 Bux-Mont seed in the 2017 PA Connie Mack State Championship Tournament against Lehigh Valley Connie Mack teams, July 20-29, at Limeport Stadium in Coopersburg, PA.

The top 4 Bux-Mont teams will play the top 8 Lehigh Valley teams in a double-elimination tournament to determine the state Connie Mack A champion.

With the loss, Warrington will enter the tournament as the #2 seed. Hatfield-Towamencin will be the #3 Bux-Mont seed, and Deep Run will enter at #4.

Doylestown's first state tournament game will be Sat. July 22 at 5:30pm against the winner of Lehigh Valley #6 seed Catasauqua and Bux-Mont's #4 seed Deep Run.

Doylestown last won the Connie Mack A Division state title in 2010. Bux-Mont's Towamencin Baseball was the reigning 2016 state champion. (Towamencin Connie Mack merged with Hatfield Connie Mack in late 2016. )
