DOYLESTOWN, PA — It’s just a simple thing — painting a pride flag on a crosswalk — but to the LGBTQ+ community, it’s a public symbol of acceptance and support that's priceless.

To kick off this year’s Pride Fest Block Party on Saturday, supporters, and members of the LGBTQ+ community gathered to celebrate the dedication of the crosswalk, the first of its kind in Bucks County.

Discover Doylestown Chair Kris Boger joined Mayor Noni West, State Senator Steve Santarsiero, State Rep. Tim Brennan, Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie, and members of the borough council to dedicate the crosswalk, which is located on Printer’s Ally at East State Street.

“We’re beyond proud to celebrate the many diverse identities within our era community. We
hope this will serve as a wonderful year-round reminder that Doylestown embraces and uplifts the LGBTQ+ community from across the region,” said Boger, President of Discover Doylestown and Chair of the Doylestown Pride Festival.

Santarsiero called the crosswalk “a welcoming and permanent show of support for the LGBTQ community.”

The borough council voted earlier this year to approve the crosswalk project, which is paid for by Discover Doylestown, which is picking up the cost of materials, installation, and ongoing maintenance.

The speakers expressed appreciation to Doylestown Borough for again leading the way in support of LGBTQ rights. The borough was the first municipality in Pennsylvania to adopt a human relations commission.

The balance of the day included lots of information, games, coloring activities, face painting and lots and lots of rainbows.

The day also included live entertainment, including two drag shows and a DJ spinning tunes.

State Senator Steve Santarsiero speaks at the crosswalk dedication.
