Doylestown Borough Council Accepts Resignation; Announces Vacancy

DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The borough council on Monday night voted to accept the resignation of Councilman Tim Brennan who will be moving on to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Brennan, who has served on council for the past seven years representing the borough’s second ward, won election in November as state representative in the 29th Legislative District, which includes Doylestown Borough, New Hope Borough, Solebury, Buckingham and Doylestown townships. He is scheduled to be sworn in on January 3 in Harrisburg.

“It has been one of my greatest honors to serve with you and past members of this council,” he wrote in his resignation letter. “I am very proud of the work we were able to do these last seven years, particularly our work completing the Broad Street project, protecting all of our residents, supporting our police and fire services and in becoming a model for thoughtful and sustainable local government.

“I very much look forward to working with you and this council in the future in my new role. I also wish you and all our colleagues the best in their continued service,” he wrote.

Prior to the vote, Brennan said he wouldn’t be going far, noting that he is currently looking at space on Main Street for his district office.

“If I were to put together a formula for an exceptional borough it would probably include an active and engaged citizenry and consistent, informed leadership. And the borough has had an embarrassment of riches in both of those things,” he said.

“The people who sit behind that dais are incredibly competent people who volunteer their time on council," he said. "The staff who we depend upon I strain to think of anyone better than the folks sitting in this room. And I’ve spent 15 years in government and they are exceptional caliber people - some of the best in the state.

“And also our citizenry. We have a citizenry that floods our committees and is always here at our meetings. The borough is blessed to have that,” he said.

“I’m happy at the work we did here together,” he continued. “There are so many things to look back on and be proud of - the Broad Street corridor, professionalizing our police force, the work we have done with environmental issues, protecting the LGTBQ+ community and surviving the pandemic.

“I have been really lucky to have worked with each and everyone of you. You have been my friends. You have been my colleagues,” he said. “I’m lucky to have served with you. This is a great place to live, work and raise a family and that doesn’t just happen. I appreciate your service. I am so much better having served with you.”

“It certainly was a pleasure working with you,” responded Council President Jack O’Brien. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. We have a motion on the floor. Do we want to let this guy go?” he asked drawing laughter from the dais.

Following a unanimous vote, O’Brien added, “You’re off the hook, sir. Motion passes.”

The Borough will be accepting applications to fill Brennan’s vacancy in Ward 2 for a term ending Dec. 31, 2023. Residents who have lived in Ward 2 on or prior to Dec. 19, 2022, and are interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume to the attention of John H. Davis, manager, Doylestown Borough, 10 Doyle Street, Doylestown 18901. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 31.
