Doylestown at Dusk Car Show draws crowds despite rain

Free family-friendly event, postponed to Sunday, July 22, attracted folks of all ages.

The only weather anyone in Central Bucks could foresee was going to be wet, so the Rotary Club of Doylestown opted for a one-day postponement and crossed fingers for Sunday, July 22, for its 9th Annual Doylestown at Dusk Car Show.

Sunshine and blue skies mixed with intermittent showers until nightfall while families and individuals—and a couple hundred antique, custom and classic vehicles—filled the streets of Doylestown and made the hard work of the Rotarians worthwhile.

“Sure, we were disappointed that the weather meant about half of the 425 registered vehicles were unable to be part of Sunday’s event,” says Gail Linenberg, club president. “But the car owners who showed up were happy to be here. Even the crowds who came out to see the vehicles didn’t appear to be put off by the occasional brief downpour. In fact, the rain drove many visitors into the arms of our sponsors as they sought shelter under the tents.”

With a weather forecast of rain, rain and more rain for the next week or so, organizers had to guess which weekend day would be best. By 8pm Friday, they’d postponed to the scheduled Sunday rain date and hoped for the best. As it turned out, it was the right decision, since occasional bright sunshine and no thunderstorms graced the event.

“We’re grateful for all our sponsors and program advertisers, with special thanks to the Borough of Doylestown, to Top Gear event sponsors Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, Keenan Motors, Keystone Volvo Cars of Doylestown and The Thompson Organization, and to High Performance VIP sponsor Worth & Company.”
