Doylestown's Bagel Barrel Sold; New Owners Take Over In October

DOYLESTOWN, PA — One of Doylestown's most popular businesses will be changing hands this fall.

In a social media posting, Patrick Murphy, the 31-year owner of the Bagel Barrel at 60 West State Street, announced that he has sold the business and that the new owners would be taking over in October.

"They are keeping everything the same - same great bagels and the same great staff that you all know and love," wrote Murphy, who has continued to make his bagels the old-fashioned way with an old barrel mixer and with a recipe passed down through his family for four generations after originating in New York.

His bagels have consistently won recognition and praise throughout the Delaware Valley as among the best.

"It has been my pleasure to have served all of you for the past 31 years. My family is blessed to have been part of this great community," wrote Murphy. "No other town is like Doylestown. So thank you everyone for the great memories."

Seventy-one followers responded to his post, many wishing him well in the future and all of them thanking him for bringing his bagels to Doylestown.

"A huge thank you to Patrick, who's provided an amazing service to the community for so many years. You will be missed, but thank you for creating such an amazing place," wrote Craig.

"31 years is a lotta bagels - and I've been grateful for each one our family has had," wrote Mary. "Thank you so much for all you've provided for Doylestown, Patrick, and best to you in your next chapter!"

Christopher added, "Congratulations Patrick. You and your team have been part of the fabric of Doylestown all these years. You will be missed. I am overjoyed that you found a new caretaker for the Bagel Barrel and hope it continues to thrive for generations to come."

And Tessa wrote, "Nothing like the Bagel Barrel and the staff there. A Doylestown staple! Thank you Patrick for the best breakfast sandwiches for the last three decades and for employing half of Doylestown at one point or another!"
