East Swimmers Lose First Meet to Souderton

Despite the team loss, several swimmers performed well and even set a few pool records for the Patriots.

Both Central Bucks East boys and girls swimmers fell to Souderton on Tuesday but the boys managed to keep the final score close in their first meet of the season.

The boys fell just short to one of their biggest rivals, by a final of 96-89, while the girls lost 103-83.

"Overall, coach Walsh and I were happy with the results," Lady Patriots coach Tom Kane said, referring to boys' coach Ed Walsh. "Souderton was a tough opener for both teams. I felt that we swam with them all the way through the meet."

Several swimmers on both teams gave stand out performances.

For the girls, divers Kelly Kater and Adele Foley both qualified for districts.

Foley lead the way, earning six points in the one meter dive. Kater followed right behind with four points to help the Patriots take the event.

Kendall Kirsteier also qualified for districts by finishing second in the 200 free and first in the 100 fly. Kane also was happy that the relay teams now have a shot at districts.

"Despite losing both meets by close scores, both teams gave solid performances for the first meet of the season," Kane added.

Depth could be an issue for the girls this season but Kane might have found at least one girl who can help step up and contribute big.

Morgan Stattler stood out in the 200 and 500 frees. She finished fourth in the 500 with a time of 5:48.03 and fifth in the 200 (2:09.99), earning the Lady Patriots several points along the way.

The boys team set several pool records, including the 200 medley relay, where Kerry Thompson, Clay Clemens, Kevin Magee and Riley Weber finished in first with a time of 1:29.39.

Magee also set records in the 100 fly (51.76) and the 100 back (53.85) where he finished first, earning the Patriots six points in each event.

He was not the only person to set a pool record, however. Weber also set one in the 100 free, finishing first with an overall time of 48.97.

Both teams now drop to 0-1 on the season but look to bounce back at their next meet, which is Friday against Wissahickon.
