ELECTION RESULTS: 'Clean Slate' Wins in Central Bucks

Beth Darcy, Sharon Collopy and Karen Smith won both primaries for seats on the Central Bucks School Board, defeating two incumbents.

Three candidates calling themselves the “Clean Slate” prevailed in Tuesday’s election for Central Bucks School Board, defeating two incumbents, according to unofficial results.

Beth Darcy, Sharon Collopy and Karen Smith won both the Democratic and Republican primaries for the open seats on the Central Bucks School Board. Incumbents Tyler Tomlinson and James Duffy were defeated.

“It is time for school board members who focus on students first,” the Clean Slate members said on their website. The trio ran on a platform of transparency, fiscal responsibility and improved communications.

  • Smith is a communications consultant who works part-time for a state-wide education advocacy organization. She is accredited in public relations by the Public Relations Society of America, and is a Pennsylvania Education Policy Fellow. She has three children and is a co-founder of the watchdog group Central Bucks Engage.
  • Collopy is a HR manager and bookkeeper for an architecture and design firm who has been active in school and community organizations, holding board positions, chairing committees, and coaching. She has lived in Doylestown Township for 30 years. Her two oldest children are CB West and Penn State graduates. She also has a daughter at West, a daughter at Lenape and a son at Kutz.
  • Darcy worked on Capitol Hill and in the financial services industry and later stayed at home to raise three children, while volunteering in community organizations. She has coached youth soccer, basketball and lacrosse and served five years as Director of CBAA Girls’ Lacrosse. She also led the Doyle Home and School Association and worked part-time for a local state representative assisting with tax and education issues
