Comic Operetta "Patience" by the Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society

The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society presents the musical comedy "Patience, or Bunthorne’s Bride" on Friday June 14 at 8:00 PM and on Saturday June 15 at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, at the Delaware Valley College Student Center, 700 E. Butler Avenue, Doylestown.  Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta delightfully spoofs the celebrity adulation paid to overly-aesthetic poets, which were all the rage in Victorian England. The cast of dreamy lovesick maidens, overwrought  bards, a down-to-earth milkmaid, gruffly indignant regimental soldiers, and a plain Jane strive to maintain their dignity in the face of utter silliness, all set to Sullivan’s glorious music. The singers will be accompanied with full orchestration by members of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $20, and $15 for seniors and students, and can be purchased at the door for each performance.  More information is at www.bucksgilbertandsullivan.org.

In a fun twist to this comedy, New Britain Mayor David Holewinski will perform a cameo appearance as The Solicitor in the first and second act finales of the show.   Bob Binkley, a New Britain resident and founder of the G&S Society says, "This role is customarily given to a local dignitary, and is quite funny.  I'm happy for Dave to step in and help us out. I know he'll get a kick out of it." The society is in its fifth season, a pleasant surprise to Binkley.  "We weren't sure when we started up that we'd have a

second season, but each year has produced another clever show, and we've attracted more and more local talent.  All of our leads are local or near-local, and our orchestra is of professional quality, with many members from the Bucks County Symphony.  We are truly blessed."
