Two Different Haiti Ministries, One Common Focus

This Monday, December 3rd, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish in Doylestown will host two speakers from two different parish missions to Haiti that nevertheless share a common focus.  Tom Kardish and other members of Mt. Carmel’s Haiti Medical Mission will give a PowerPoint presentation on their work with the youth of Haiti in the areas of health and education, covering the progress the mission has made in its first four years and the goals that still lie ahead.  And parishioner Jim Reichwein will give a PowerPoint on the first year of a brand new ministry to Haiti – shooting hoops!  Reichwein and his son Cal went to Haiti this past summer to help rebuild and restore, but also to teach basketball. Before they left Doylestown, they collected basketball shoes in various sizes to give to the kids at the Mission of Hope Orphanage, whom they also coached in the fundamentals of the game.

Mt. Carmel has established a secure relationship with our neighbors to the south, a relationship that continues to flower in unexpected ways.  The Peace & Justice Committee is proud to welcome two groups of witness to its growth.  St. Mary’s Hall, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Monday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m. Entrance Fee:  A bottle of children’s vitamins (NOT chewable), a pair of basketball sneakers, or a package of athletic socks.  For further information, call Fran Lorié, (215) 489-4039.
