Exercise Class Designed For People With Parkinson's Now Offered In Bucks County

Rock Steady, a boxing class for people with Parkinson's, will be offered at Unbound Synergy in Bucks County.

A boxing program that has been developed for people with Parkinson's disease is now available in Bucks County.

Rock Steady Boxing, designed for both men and women, involves regular exercises, such as stretching, running, jumping rope, push-ups, balancing and non-contact boxing. It is led by experienced coaches for participants of all ages and levels of ability.

Classes start in April and will be held Mondays and Thursdays 2:15 p.m. at Unbound Synergy in Union Square, New Hope.

“We are excited to be able to bring this program to Bucks County,” said Anne Haneman, a certified Rock Steady Boxing trainer.

The Rock Steady Boxing Method was developed in Indianapolis over the course of seven years. In 2012, the Training Camp was launched to share the Rock Steady Boxing Method with other people who are fighting back against Parkinson’s.

The program is for anyone at any stage of Parkinson's. Accommodations are made if the caregiver needs to be present during the class due to the advanced stage of the disease.

“We have always believed in the Rock Steady Boxing Method,” said Rock Steady Boxing, Inc. Executive Director Joyce Johnson. “When evidence began to emerge that our program had a very positive impact on the ‘boxers’, our mission became clear -- to share our knowledge and experience with all people with Parkinson’s."
