Extraordinary Compassion Earns Doylestown Nurse 'Daisy Award'
A Doylestown Hospital Registered Nurse was recently honored with a DAISY Award for her dedication to patient care.

DOYLESTOWN, PA —A Registered Nurse at Penn Medicine Doylestown Hospital recently earned the international DAISY Award for her compassionate care during a critical moment for a patient and her family.
Classica Kelso was honored with the award, which recognizes extraordinary nursing staff for their dedication and service to patients.
The recognition stems from the care Kelso provided to a 92-year-old patient who was struggling to breathe while resting in her hospital room. The patient had been drifting in and out of sleep while using an oxygen mask throughout the day.

As the patient waited for her son to arrive from San Diego, Kelso took steps to ensure the room was prepared for the visit. She gently cleaned the patient, combed her hair, and freshened the room to create a peaceful and dignified environment for the family reunion.
Kelso also removed the oxygen mask just before the son arrived at her bedside.

According to the nomination for the award, those actions laid the groundwork for a meaningful and final interaction between the mother and son.
"By some miracle, she was alert and had the biggest smile as her son approached the bed. It was a gift from God and a priceless moment," the nominator shared regarding the visit. "Because of the care provided by Kelso, the family will cherish that final visit as a lasting memory."
