Fire Sparked By Discarded Ashes Scorches Doylestown Township Home

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Discarded ashes sparked a fire Saturday afternoon that scorched the siding of a home in the 100 block of Steeplechase Drive in Doylestown Township
Firefighters from Doylestown Fire Company No. 1 responded to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. for a dwelling fire.
Upon arrival, crews confirmed the extinguishment of a dwelling fire caused by ashes that had been discarded in a trash can sitting next to the house.

Firefighters said a neighbor spotted the fire and extinguished the flames with a garden hose, but not before the fire had scorched the siding of the house.
Firefighters checked for extension and conducted mop-up operations.

“Too often, we respond to these types of incidents. Hot ashes should never be placed in a trash can,” said the firefighters. “Additionally, never place them anywhere near your house. Hot ashes can reach ignition temperature several days later.”
