Foundations Community Partnership has announced its informative new Spring educational webinar series for educators, counselors, parents, and mental health professionals featuring leading experts in child and adolescent gender issues and the mental health impact of COVID-19 on young people.
Some clinicians have little experience working with gay, lesbian, bisexual, questioning, transgender, or gender-nonconforming children and adolescents. Gender specialist Michele Angello, Ph.D., author of “Raising the Transgender Child” and “On the Couch with Dr. Angello” will discuss “Clinical Issues for Trans and Nonbinary Children, Adolescents, and Their Families” on Weds., March 2, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. During her enlightening presentation, Dr. Angello will address mental health issues, unique variables, and best practices for supporting transgender/nonbinary youth and their families.
The ongoing stress, grief, and anxiety surrounding COVID-19 has weighed heavily on youth and caregivers. Yesenia Marroquin, Ph.D., and Anne C. Bijman, LCSW, experts from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Anxiety Behaviors Clinic, will discuss “Managing Youth and Caregiver Anxious Distress in the Context of COVID-19” on Weds., April 6, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. They will educate participants about the mental health impact of COVID-19 on youth, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation strategies and other techniques for combating anxious distress. Clinicians will be provided with concrete skills that they can teach and recommend to parents regarding how to manage their children’s behavioral changes in the context of their anxious distress related to the pandemic.
