BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The family of a 37-year-old Telford man who died after saving two children from drowning at Lake Nochamixon on Thursday, has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for funeral expenses and for his surviving 3-year-old son.

Marvin Chicas was fishing at Nockamixon State Park with his 3-year-old son when he saw two children struggling in the Tohickon Creek where swimming is prohibited. He jumped into the water and pulled the children to shore, but then began to struggle and disappeared under the water, witnesses said. Divers recovered his body hours later in Lake Nochamixon.

On Friday, the Bucks County Coroner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as drowning and ruled it accidental.

“Our office extends its deepest condolences to the decedent’s family and friends during this difficult time as they process this tragic loss," said Coroner Meredith Buck.

According to a Facebook posting, Chicas worked at Heaven's Gate horse farm in Pipersville as the sole provider for his family and leaves behind a 3-year-old son, who family members said was always at his side.

"Marvin was a very hardworking man and an excellent father," writes Lesly, the wife of one of Marvin's brothers, on the GoFundMe page.

"His mother in Honduras desperately wants to be able to say goodbye and bury him close to family," said his friends. "All money raised will be used to help with transport and funeral costs and to provide for his little boy."

As of Saturday, 290 donors had given more than $15,200 towards a goal of $30,000.
