Man With Hammer At Wawa, Hair Products Stolen: Plumstead Police Report

Police also make DUI arrest following two vehicle crash and investigate several cases of fraudulent activity.

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Plumstead Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between July 8 and 13:

July 8

  • At 1:44 p.m., officers responded to the CVS on Swamp Road for a retail theft. When the officers arrived, the complainant informed them that in the last 20 minutes an unknown individual walked down the aisle and grabbed about 10 bottles of hair products and placed them in his backpack and walked out of the store. The stolen items amounted to more than $370. Officers are reviewing the surveillance video. The case remains under investigation.
  • At 2:05 p.m., a Plumstead resident filed a fraud report with police. The resident told police that when she received her bank statement there were unauthorized transactions in the amount of $5,000 for gift cards purchased at Home Depot in Philadelphia. The officer provided the resident with an Identity Theft and Victims Rights packet. The case remains under investigation as the officer attempt to obtain security footage.

  • At 9:21 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Wawa on Easton Road for a retail theft. When officers arrived, a store employee showed police a video of the theft. The complainant said that the individual was still on scene. Officers spoke with the suspect, who the officers were able to positively ID from the video. The 22-year-old Philadelphia woman was arrested, processed and released on a non-traffic citation.
  • At 7:51 p.m., officers responded to Roseberry Drive for a fraud report. When officers arrived, they met with the complainant who told police that he paid an individual $800 for some documents. At some point during the conversation the unknown actor requested another $800 which was not paid. Officers were able to call the unknown actor who hung up once he realized he was talking to the police. The officer provided the complainant with a Victims Right packet.

July 12

  • At 7:19 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle accident ion Easton Road. When the officers arrived, they approached one of the drivers who was still seated in their vehicle. While talking to the driver the officer noticed that his motor skills were delayed and that he had slurred speech. The driver admitted to taking extra medication. Officers arrested the 51-year-0ld man from Dublin for Driving Under the influence. Charges are pending blood results.

  • At 10:14 p.m., officers were called to the Wawa on Easton Road for a report of a man armed with a hammer. When the officers arrived, they were met by a store employee who said that the man had hit two different cars with the hammer after being accused of stealing food from the suspect’s car. As the officer was talking, he witnessed the suspect approach another man. Officers were able to intervene and defuse the situation by separating the suspect and the other party. The suspect was identified and when the officers ran his name it came back that there was an active warrant. Officers arrested a 53-year-old man from La Belle for possession of an instrument of a crime and on a state warrant. He was processed, arraigned and was handed over to the state probation officer.
