Master Butcher, Longtime Warrington Resident, Dies At 88

Ernst A. Illg, a master butcher and founder of Ernst A. Illg Meats Inc., died April 3. He was a longtime Warrington resident.

Ernst A. Illg, Master Butcher, Charcuterer and founder of Ernst A. Illg Meats Inc., passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Abington Memorial Hospital. He was 88.

Ernst was the husband of the late Magdalene Illg. Married in Germany in 1952, they were longtime residents of Warrington, previously living in Philadelphia. Born in Stuttgart Germany, Ernst was a son of the late Adolf and Ludmilla Illg.Ernst was proud of his German heritage and was active with the Bayerischer Volksfest Verein in Philadelphia, where he held several office positions including House Chairman. He was also active with the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein, United German Hungarian Club, Vereinigung Ertzgibirge, the Brewerytown Lions Club and the Moose Lodge.

In his spare time he loved being in nature, felling trees and splitting wood at his “House on Deer Lake” in the Poconos. He was an avid Phillies fan rarely missing a televised game.Ernst is survived by a son Ernst K. Illg and his wife Pamela, 2 grandsons, Kevin and his wife Beth and Steven and his wife Megan and 4 great grandchildren, Julia, Maximillian, Parker and Dylan. He is also survived by a sister Emma Schert.

He was preceded in death by a brother Paul.Funeral services for Ernst will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington where the family will receive friends after 9:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow privately. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasantville United Church of Christ, 3424 Limekiln Pike, Chalfont, PA 18914.
