In addition to dine-in and take-out service, McAlister’s offers catering with a selection of sandwich trays, box lunches, desserts, a hot spud bar and more.

Nearly three decades ago, a dentist from Oxford, Mississippi, had a vision to turn an abandoned movie-set diner into a small, yet charming, neighborhood restaurant and gathering place.

That vision became a reality when the first McAlister’s opened its doors in 1989. The 1989 menu would still feel familiar today packed with all the craveable sandwiches, spuds and salads the eatery is known for in 2024 –and of course its famous sweet tea.

“Our food is our foundation - we wouldn’t be here without the 13 layers of our McAlister’s Club or our giant spuds covered with your favorite toppings,” says the eatery’s website. “Our goal is to serve handcrafted food and delicious sweet tea that is simple and satisfying – for every palette, even mom’s pickiest eater. We take familiar flavors and add the special McAlister’s touch that you won’t find anywhere else.”

Some of its more popular offerings include its fresh seasonal salads; their bread bowl soups; its giant spuds with various toppings; and their cold and hot deli sandwiches, including its popular club sandwiches (grilled chicken, black Angus and its McAlister’s Club); black Angus roast beef
and cheddar sandwich; ham and cheese melt; the New Yorker; and its Reuben and Rachel sandwiches, which come with a side of potato salad and a pickle. They also offer a half soup and a half sandwich deal.

McAlister’s also serves one of the best restaurant teas (sweet and unsweetened) in the industry with lemon upon request. And desserts include cake, cookies and cheesecake.
