Middle Bucks Students Shine At Skills USA District Competition

Students from Central Bucks, Council Rock and Tennent moving on to compete in the SkillsUSA State Competition after winning district gold.

JAMISON, PA —Twenty-one students from the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology will be moving on to compete in the state SkillsUSA competition after winning gold in the district competition held at the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center in January and early February.

With 66 students competing in 49 competitions, MBIT placed in 28 events earning 10 bronze medals, 18 silver medals, and 21 gold medals. Some competitions are individual events while others are team events.

Students earning gold move on to compete in the SkillsUSA State Competition to be held in Hershey in April.

"Middle Bucks Institute of Technology is thrilled to celebrate the overwhelming success of our student SkillsUSA competitors," said Dr. Mark Covelle, the administrative director at MBIT. "Their participation and success in these competitions shows the incredible preparation and skill development career technical education at MBIT provides. We wish our students the best of luck as they continue to the state level competition in Hershey."

In district competition, students strive to achieve in a variety of job skill and leadership areas, including welding, electrical construction, carpentry, cosmetology, plumbing, cybersecurity, nail care, auto service technology, technical drafting and more. Competitions begin at the district level and continue through state and national levels.

The competitions are organized by SkillsUS, a national membership association serving high school, college, and middle school students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations, and for further education.

The association empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. It also improves the quality of the nation’s future skilled workforce through the development of framework skills that include personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics.

SkillsUSA produces the most highly skilled workforce in the world, providing every member the opportunity for career success.
