DUI Patrols Planned In New Britain Twp. Leading Up To St. Patrick's Day

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and celebrate responsibly to avoid impaired driving incidents during the holiday.

NEW BRITAIN TOWNSHIP, PA — The New Britain Township Police Department will conduct extra patrols during the week leading up to March 17th and on St. Patrick’s Day itself.

The increased patrols are aimed at deterring impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel during the holiday period.

Police will be looking for indicators of impaired driving, including failing to maintain a lane, swerving, reacting to non-existent objects, illegal turns or lane changes, failing to stop or signal, and driving significantly under the speed limit. The observations help officers identify individuals who may be operating a vehicle while impaired, police said.

Police said impairment is not solely caused by alcohol, noting that illegal drugs, many prescription medications, and some over-the-counter medications can also affect a person's ability to drive safely. While medical marijuana is legal in the state, driving under its influence remains illegal, they said.

To ensure community safety, the New Britain Township Police Department urges residents to plan responsibly if they intend to consume alcohol or any substance that might impair their driving ability. They recommend staying home or utilizing a designated driver or rideshare service.
