New Option For Produce Home Delivery Coming To Doylestown

Good news: Hungry Harvest produce delivery — as seen on Shark Tank — is expanding to Doylestown.

Come January, there will be a new way for Doylestown residents to get affordable produce delivered right to their door, while at the same time helping other hungry people in need. Hungry Harvest produce delivery — previously featured on Shark Tank — is expanding to parts of Bucks County, including Doylestown, Warrington and Warminster, the company announced this week.

The concept is simple: Hungry Harvest purchases freshly-harvested produce from farmers and wholesalers that would otherwise be thrown away due to surplus or aesthetic imperfections. The products are then packaged in various sized and themed boxes, depending on the customer's preference, and delivered directly to the door at prices up to 40 percent less than retail, according to company representatives.

The benefits are three-fold, Cynthia Plotch, Hungry Harvest director for the Philadelphia region, tells Patch. First, it keeps perfectly fresh and delicious food from going to waste. Second, it offers consumers an affordable and convenient option for healthy eating. Third, it helps others — for every order, a donation of food is made to Philabundance.

Plotch said Hungry Harvest was launched in parts of the Philadelphia region in 2016 after a successful debut in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. As of Jan. 13, 2018 it will be available in parts of Bucks County along Rt. 611. In the future, Plotch says the company hopes to bring its product to all of Bucks County.

Seasonal products are offered, as well as items from a wide range of places, Plotch said. For example "right now we have citrus from Florida," she said.

Customers can sign up for a weekly or biweekly delivery. As of now, deliveries are made on Saturdays and all orders must be placed by Wednesday of that week. You can skip orders using the website, or cancel at anytime, she said, and you only pay when you receive a box.

Box options include Mini Harvest, Full Harvest or Super Harvest. You can get all fruit, all vegetable or organic for a fee. All boxes are customizable, Plotch explained.
