'Other Desert Cities' Opens June 15 At Town & Country Players

The drama runs weekends from June 15 to June 30.

Other Desert Cities, a show named after a highway sign in California, is part drama, part mystery, part comedy and completely compelling. The play takes place around Christmas Eve 2004 in the Palm Springs home of politically conservative Hollywood power couple Lyman Wyeth (Jerry Neville) and Polly Wyeth (Meg Waldowski).

Their liberal leaning daughter Brooke Wyeth (Danielle Malat) returns home after six years in New York as a magazine writer to spend Christmas with her parents and equally liberal brother, Trip Wyeth (Rob Rosiello) and Aunt, Silda Grauman (Breffny Rouse). Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family's history—a wound they don't want reopened. Political differences and a long-held family secret, this show is all about family drama.

And Director Nancy Ridgeway loves a good drama. While musicals and comedies are popular with theater audiences, Ridgeway has proven that audiences also appreciate a well-written, well-directed and well-acted drama. For the past two seasons Ridgway has directed the show that won the coveted “Town and Country Cup” for best play of the season, both dramas: A Few Good Men 2017 and August: Osage County 2016. “I love a good story and especially a story about family,” remarked Ridgeway. “What makes ODC extra special is that the playwright has written this story with compelling dialogue.” ODC is written by Jon Robin Baitz, best known for his series Brothers and Sisters which ran on ABC from 2006-2011. Ridgeway concluded, “ODC is funny, sarcastic and cynical on one hand and compelling, dramatic and explosive on the other. It has everything a theatergoer could wish for in an evening of theatrical entertainment.”
