Peace Fair This Weekend At Buckingham Friends Meeting

Promoting harmony in the home, community, environment and in the world, the Peace Fair annually attracts several thousand visitors.

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Peace Fair - a Bucks County tradition for more than two decades - returns to the grounds of the historic Buckingham Friends Meetinghouse on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by Bucks County area Quakers, the fair features a mix of local crafters and fair-trade vendors offering eco-friendly products, hand-woven fabrics, paintings and photographs, pottery, and wares from around the world. Exhibitors include area non-profits devoted to education, healthy living, conservation, social justice, climate change, family heritage, peace and many other fields of interest to Bucks area residents.

The Latin band, Eco del Sur, and the bluegrass band, Tookany Creek, are among the headline entertainers. They will be joined by Mindy Murray of River Drivers, EcoMan (children's songs) and students from the Prerna School in Yardley performing traditional and contemporary Indian dance.

A special feature of the fair is the Heritage Display, a “festival of sights and sounds,” where area families will showcase the culture, costume, and activities of their ancestors’ origin. Visitors to the fair are invited to dress in traditional national costumes and visit the Heritage tent to compare notes with others interested in family origins.

The fair also features games and activities for all ages from toddlers to seniors, including a self-powered “Peace Train” for the youngest and a dunking tank for the daring. A variety of traditional and vegan/vegetarian food will be available, and it is said that the homemade chili is some of the best in the county.

A poetry reading featuring current Bucks County Poet Laureate Nicole Steinberg will take place behind the Meetinghouse at midday with an open mic at the end.

The Peace Fair is handicapped accessible, free to the public and is located next to Peddler’s Village.

Dedicated to promoting harmony in the home, the community, the environment, and the world, the Peace Fair serves more than 60 vendors/exhibitors and several thousand visitors each year. It has become a tradition for Bucks area families looking for a fun-filled experience where they can also learn about how organizations and individuals are promoting peace and justice in Bucks County and around the world.
