PECO Outages Top 300K Morning After Nor'easter

More than 300,000 PECO customers remain without power and it could be days until the lights come on for everyone.

More than 300,000 PECO customers remain without power following a vicious nor'easter that walloped the area on Friday, and it could be days until the lights come on for everyone, sources say.

On Friday night, nearly 350,000 PECO customers had no power. Outages increased rapidly during the progression of the storm, which materialized worse than the initial forecasts suggested.

In a statement Friday night, PECO said it was too early to determine when service will be restored to all customers because high winds were still moving through the area. But NBC10, citing sources from PECO, says it could be four days before power is fully restored to the region.

Widespread outages remain across the region. Montgomery County was the hardest hit, reporting 100,000 outages the morning after the storm. In Delaware County, more than 82,000 remain without power, and in Bucks County, more than 68,000 customers are still in the dark. Chester County is reporting more than 30,000 still, and Philadelphia more than 18,000.

PECO said in a statement that its employees plan to work "around-the-clock" to assess the damage and make repairs "in a safe and efficient manner."

"Safety is our top priority, for our employees, our customers and the communities we serve. We urge our customers to stay away from downed wires and assume any downed wire is energized," PECO said.

Outages extend beyond Philadelphia and its suburbs. More than 100,000 PPL customers in the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos are without power Saturday morning.

PECO customers who need to report an outage or downed wire, call 1-800-841-4141 or report and track through PECO's mobile app or our website at www.peco.com.
