'Pink Moon' To Glow Over Pennsylvania Thursday Night

Annual April full moon set to glow Thursday night into Friday morning.

April’s famous Pink Moon is set to bloom over Pennsylvania skies this week, but will it really be pink?

Unfortunately no, it won’t, according to fullmoonphases.com. Rather the name comes from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the first widespread flowers of the spring.

The full moon will be big and bright, though, and appear Thursday night into Friday morning, with a peak viewing time of 12:24 a.m. Friday.

In March, sky watchers from the Keystone State were able to spot a very bright Jupiter near the month’s full moon, along with a penumberal lunar eclipse in the same week.

The weather forecast in the Philadelphia region for Thursday night calls for a chance of showers, mainly after 2 am. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
