Plumstead Township Welcomes New Police Officer To The Beat

Yardley resident Matthew Sozio was sworn in this week as the township's newest full-time officer.

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Plumstead Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday welcomed a new police officer to the beat.

"It is my pleasure to bring Matthew Sozio before the supervisors to be sworn in as a full-time police officer," said Chief David Mettin. "I believe that Matthew’s background and experience will allow him to be an asset to the Plumstead Township Police Department and our community."

Applause filled the room after Sozio was sworn in by District Judge Gary Gambardella.

Sozio comes to the township with experience working for the Tullytown Borough and Bristol Borough police departments in Lower Bucks County.

Sozio is a 2016 graduate of the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, where he was a member of the varsity baseball team.

In 2020, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in administration of justice and a minor in sociology. He made the Dean's List in all four years at Penn State.

After graduation, Sozio attended the Temple University Police Academy, graduating in April 2021.

While attending the academy he interned with the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department.

A resident of Yardley, Sozio successfully completed his background investigation and all medical, vision, and psychological examinations required for the job.
